The Five Tests of False Doctrine

An article by Tim Challies, blogger, author, and book reviewer

Author: Mike Wright

T.D. Jakes says that God eternally exists in three manifestations, not three persons. Greg Boyd says God knows some aspects of the future, but that other future events are outside of his knowledge. Creflo Dollar says because we are created in the image of God, we are little gods. Mormonism says God revealed new scripture to Joseph Smith that supersedes the Bible. Roman Catholicism says we are justified by faith, but not by faith alone. This world is a murky madness of true and false. For every doctrine we know to be true, there seems to be a hundred pretenders.

No wonder, then, that John tells us to “test the spirits” and Paul says, “test everything” (1 John 4:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:21). It is our sacred responsibility to examine every doctrine to determine if it is true or false. But how can we distinguish sound doctrine from false? How can we distinguish teachers of truth from teachers of error?

The Shack: Its Dangerous Theology and Error

Author: Mike Wright

Ever since I first read The Shack, I had deep concerns about its content. I began to have a check in my spirit almost from the first chapter, and that continued right through to the end of the book. I believe there to be grievous errors in the theology presented in this book, errors that are presented with a subtlety that allows them to creep past the unsuspecting mind unnoticed. This, I fear, is what has happened, and is happening, to many believers.

This documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epEQv6-5u0U (or click Read more below) examines the issues of The Shack thoroughly, and has come to similar conclusions that I reached, such as:

  1. It presents blasphemous representations of God.
  2. It presents a false view of the Trinity, including that the Father became incarnate and was crucified with the Son.

  3. It denies the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ's death on the cross.

  4. It suggests that all human beings are saved, whether they repent of their sins and accept Christ or not.

  5. It teaches that hell is "restorative", a type of purgatory.

Well worth watching. Don't believe what is written in The Shack; don't believe anyone who endorses the book, no matter their "status" within the body of Christ; don't believe me or the content of this video; believe the Word of God that is presented as part of this video. Trust that God, by His Holy Spirit, will guide you into all truth.

Another update – Paul Young has just released another book, "Lies We Believe About God", which is critiqued in this very good article: http://creation.com/paul-young-lies-review.

Have nothing to do with worldly fables

Author: Anonym

The Word of God tells us that "in later times" some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1). Many in "our times" are falling away from the faith as a result of reading or listening to supposed "Christian messages"; others may not fall away from the faith, but their faith is severely dented by such teachings, and they end up being tossed about by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14). How can we protect ourselves from such "deceiving spirits"?

Doctrines of Demons

By Pastor Anton Bosch *

Author: Anonym

An excellent article by Pastor Anton Bosch, published here with his permission, that urges caution when reading books and articles that describe Satan and the demons in ways that the Bible does not support.
